Sand of Silence is an exhibition examining sand depletion as a global crisis. It explores sand not as a neutral material, but as a finite system supporting modern construction, technology, and cities.
Through global sand types and a feature-length documentary addressing issues such as illegal mining, the exhibition reveals how human consumption is destabilizing ecosystems and communities..
NAMING, WORDMARK & COLOR PALETTE
SAND OF SILENCE
The title needed to move beyond description toward poetry. “Sand of Silence” reflects the quiet, unnoticed extraction of sand, its gradual disappearance and the lack of awareness surrounding the crisis.
My design inspiration in general draws from the earthy tones of brown and black in terms of color considering the see sense, which I find to be the most fitting for capturing the essence of sand.
I tilted the upper parts of the letters to resemble the silhouette of buildings, symbolizing humanity’s dependence on sand for construction. Additionally, I applied a grain effect to the bottom of the letters to give the impression of sand gradually disappearing, mirroring the exhibition’s central theme.

ORIGINAL POSTER
This poster operates as an entry point. It avoids explicit narrative, presenting sand as an abstract, suspended presence. The ambiguity is intentional—designed to create tension and curiosity before context is revealed.
DOCUMENTRY POSTER
The cinematic poster appears later in the exhibition, within the film section, where the concept becomes explicit. Construction, machinery, and the city are shown directly, linking sand to extraction and urban growth. Positioned as a resolution, the poster reveals what the earlier silence concealed.
